AUGUST KEY POINTS
TOTAL NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES
The August 2012 trend estimate (92 701) has increased by 0.5% when compared with July 2012.
Seasonally Adjusted - The August 2012 seasonally adjusted estimate for new motor vehicle sales (93 379) increased by 3.6% when compared with July 2012.
SALES BY TYPE OF VEHICLE
When comparing national trend estimates for August 2012 with July 2012, sales of Passenger vehicles have decreased by 0.5%, while, Sports utility and Other vehicles have increased by 1.0% and 2.3% respectively.
Seasonally Adjusted - When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for August 2012 with July 2012, sales of Passenger and Sports utility vehicles have increased by 4.7% and 4.3% respectively. Over the same period Other vehicles have increased by 0.4%.
SALES BY STATE
All eight states and territories have experienced an increase in the trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales when comparing August 2012 with July 2012. The Australian Capital Territory recorded the largest percentage increase (1.2%), followed by Queensland (0.8%) and New South Wales (0.5%).
In seasonally adjusted terms, sales of new motor vehicles increased in seven of the eight states and territories when comparing August 2012 with July 2012. Queensland recorded the largest percentage increase (6.8%), followed by the Australian Capital Territory (6.7%) and New South Wales (4.7%). Over the same period Tasmania recorded a decrease of 9.9%.

DATA NOTES
The flooding which occurred in Thailand in from June 2011 may have had an impact on new vehicle sales in Australia due to associated delays in delivery of Thai manufactured vehicles and vehicle parts. The impacts from the flooding is no longer affecting the supply of new motor vehicles to Australia from Thailand.
